ARVC Foundation Practitioner Certificate for NFPA 1194®

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is a United States trade association that creates and maintains private, copyrighted, standards and codes for usage and adoption by local governments. NFPA 1194® Standard for Recreational Vehicle Parks and Campgrounds provides codes and standards related to the operation of RV Parks and Campgrounds.


The ARVC Foundation Practitioner Certificate for the NFPA 1194® program is designed to ensure that park owners and operators have an in-depth knowledge of the current standards for RV Parks and Campgrounds. This will provide practitioners with knowledge of best practices and the necessary resources to work with regulatory agencies when designing or modifying existing facilities.


Requirements to earn the ARVC Foundation Practitioner Certificate for NFPA 1194®:

  1. Register for NFPA Certificate Program (cost $300 ARVC members, $500 non-members).
  2. Attend and participate in all classes offered.
  3. Complete online assessment with a score of 90% or better.
  4. Submit completed park inspection for review.

Workshop Agenda

Introduction
This course will provide an introduction to the National Fire Protection Association’s Standards and its impact on regulations for the RV Park and Campground industry. Topics include recommended practices on utilizing standards and strategies for working with authorities.


Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe the role and function of NFPA Standards.
  2. Discuss the revision and adoption process for NFPA Standards.
  3. Explain the importance of the NFPA 1194.
  4. Discuss how to use the NFPA 1194 when working or communicating with local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
  5. Describe the purpose of the NFPA 1194 Annex.


Electrical Standards
This course addresses code compliance for electrical installations, systems, and equipment per National Fire Protection Association’s 1194 (NFPA 1194®) and the National Electrical Code (NEC®).


Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify NFPA Standards for electrical installations, systems, and equipment in RV Parks and Campgrounds.
  2. Describe optimal inspection, testing, and maintenance procedures for electrical installations, systems, and equipment.
  3. Describe processes for proper risk mitigation related to electrical mishaps.


Facilities Standards
This course focuses on the general design criteria for RV Parks and Campgrounds as presented in Chapter 5 of the National Fire Protection Association’s 1194 (NFPA 1194®).


Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify standards related to the general design of a park.
  2. Discuss how to use the NFPA 1194 as a benchmarking tool for new construction, additions and renovation.


Fire Safety Standards
This course focuses on the public health and safety requirements for RV Parks and Campgrounds as presented in Chapters 5 and 6 of the National Fire Protection Association’s 1194 (NFPA 1194®).


Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify standards related to fire safety for a park.
  2. Describe site and emergency planning procedures to facilitate response by emergency services as indicated in NFPA 1194.
  3. Discuss the requirements for the placement and use of fire protection equipment.
  4. Describe processes for proper risk mitigation related to fire prevention.


Water and Sanitation Standards
This course focuses on the environmental health and sanitation requirements for RV Parks and Campgrounds as presented in Chapter 7 of the National Fire Protection Association’s 1194 (NFPA 1194®).


Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify standards related to water supply at a park.
  2. Identify standards related to sanitary facilities at a park.
  3. Identify standards related to waste water.
  4. Describe the process to address a deficiency in potable water quality.
